“She isn’t paying attention to a single thing I’m saying.” muttered Shinji, using his index finger and thumb to rub his eyes, making a brushing moment from the outside into the bridge of his nose. He looked at the girl, her expression was empty and soulless. Shuffling to the right slightly, it didn’t seem like she was bothering to move her eyes to focus on him. It was almost as if he could do or say anything to this girl and get the same emotionless and monotone reaction.
“I suppose you aren’t particularly interested in me, given your disposition. No one is. I may as well throw myself off of a bridge.” he said, trying to hide a sarcastic tone. Of course, he felt like this at times, but he was wondering if this radical of a statement would get something out of this girl.

[She continues to keep her eyes closed, and nods again, although he does have her attention now.]

[Eventually, she opens one, and sighs a bit, already tired of talking despite not having done much of it at all.]
“Why would you do that, now?”

For a moment Shinji just stared blankly at her face, then at her hand. A hand which stood motionless in the air, the pink sleeve covering it and flowing to the right from the gentle breeze. He put out his sweaty, warm hand and tried to shake hers; however, he couldn’t manage to get her to move her arm with him. No matter how hard he shook his arm, she refused to budge.
“I didn’t know I was this lousy at talking to people. The least you could do is actually move your arm, considering you put your arm out first.” he grunted, letting out a long sigh and rubbing his free hand on his cheek.
[Madotsuki closes her eyes slowly and tilts her head to the side, lost in a brief moment of thought.]

“…”
[She snaps her eyes open after a bit and blinks at him, clearly unaware of her surroundings. She lets go of his hand and nods again, not having paid attention to a word he had said, but not wanting to look rude.]
“I see.”

Raising his head to an upright position, his face still quivering and brow sweating. He stepped closer to her slightly, offering a weak smile. The girl seemed to have warmed up a little, but still seemed warry of Shinji. It was understandable, of course. Being approached by a strange person, especially of the opposite sex, would scare just about everyone.
“I-I’m Shinji Ikari. It’s nice to meet you.”

“…Madotsuki.”
[The young girl takes a step backwards, still not quite comfortable enough to be any closer to him. She nods, and hesitates a moment before sticking her hand out stiffly.]
“Likewise.”

Shinji was taken back by the girls cold indifference. He scratched his head and looked at his feet, which he was shifting.
“I was just trying to..say hi, I guess. You looked a bit lost in a day dream and wanted to know if you were alright.” he said bashfully. He wasn’t expecting her to be so…rude, though it was something he’d grown accustomed to because of Asuka.
[She looks towards him and opens her eyes the slightest bit, trying to analyze him without appearing to show too much interest. She didn’t know if she could trust him quite yet. His nervous demeanor was making her suspicious.]

“…I suppose so.”

“Erm, Hello? Are you alright?”
“…..”

“What do you want.”
